Engineering Consulting Firm - Hybrid/Onsite - Direct Hire
THE RIGHT STAFF has partnered with a growing engineering consulting firm to hire an experienced Project Controller for their office located in Eden Prairie, MN.
This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting construction and engineering projects by overseeing financial performance, monitoring budgets, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and guiding project accounting functions. The Project Controller will collaborate closely with project managers, accounting, and procurement teams to maintain financial accuracy and optimize project outcomes throughout the lifecycle.
Essential Job Duties:
• Lead and mentor project accounting staff to ensure accurate project financial tracking, reporting, and compliance.
• Monitor project budgets, costs, and forecasts, including reviewing effort-to-complete (ETC) and effort-at-completion (EAC) estimates.
• Analyze percent-complete calculations and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP standards.
• Review labor, subcontractor, equipment, and material costs to identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure proper project setup within ERP systems, including work breakdown structures (WBS) and contract terms.
• Review subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, progress billings, and material costs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Track committed costs, open purchase orders, and projected expenses to maintain accurate cost forecasting.
• Evaluate contract assets and liabilities and ensure timely invoicing and accurate accounts receivable tracking.
• Support compliance efforts related to retainage, sales tax, bonding requirements, and audit requests.
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and finance leadership to ensure accurate reporting and project performance visibility.
• Assist with project closeout activities, including reconciliation of final costs and outstanding commitments.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field required.
• 5+ years of project accounting, project controls, or financial management experience within construction or engineering environments preferred.
• Strong knowledge of project-based accounting, GAAP revenue recognition methods, and cost tracking.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze complex financial data.
• Experience working with ERP systems and project management software preferred.
• Understanding of construction contract structures, including lump sum and cost-plus agreements.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with accounting, operations, and leadership teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Position Benefits, Pay, & Schedule:
• Compensation ranges from $100, 000-$115, 000 annually, depending on experience.
• Hybrid schedule based in Eden Prairie, MN.
• Standard business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M., with flexibility based on project needs.
